There is no better way to prepare for the future than to become totally involved in school activities. Athletics at Central Catholic is one school activity that provides the opportunity to do just that.

In accordance with our mission of educating and forming the whole person, Allentown Central Catholic strives for excellence in athletics, as well as academics. The athletic department's philosophy is rooted within the principles of Catholic education with emphasis on the sportsmanship and fair play. The athletic programs provide all students the opportunity to build self-confidence and to experience the benefits that flow from physical exercise, teamwork, and competition. The coaching staff instills the qualities of leadership, loyalty, and sportsmanship. The student athlete learns to cope with both winning and losing - "to be humble in victory and proud in defeat."

Over 60% of Central Catholic students participate in one or more of 45 teams in the eighteen interscholastic sports that are offered. Our teams compete in the Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference that includes schools

with much higher student populations. Despite that fact, our Vikings and Vikettes have more than have held their own as evidenced by the success our programs have had in District XI and State competition. Over the past few seasons, we have had individual District Champions in Girls Cross Country, Girls Track, Boys and Girls Swimming along with the team champions in Football, Girls Volleyball, Boys Basketball and Girls Basketball. Individual State Championships have been captured in Girls Cross Country and Track.

Both the Girls Volleyball and Girls Cross Country Teams were State Champions in 2002.

The Vikette Girls Basketball Team has won four consecutive State PIAA titles since 2001. No other Girls Basketball program in Pennsylvania has ever matched that accomplishment.

The coaching staff recognizes the educational excellence that our athletes attain during their four years and are instrumental in assisting them in getting into the colleges and universities that match that excellence. Over 98% of our athletes go on to higher education after graduation. The majority of them also have earned academic and/or athletic scholarships. Central Catholic enjoys a reputation of producing well-rounded student –athletes that go on to be assets to the colleges and universities they choose to attend. That reputation translates into our students having numerous choices when deciding their educational future.
